Oldham have given new one-year deals to forward Ed Smith and outside-back Harry Aaronson.

Former York captain Smith linked up with the Roughyeds midway through last season, making three appearances for the club.

Aaronson enjoyed a loan spell at hometown club Oldham last season from Swinton, scoring four tries in nine games.

Oldham coach Matt Diskin said: “It was a bad injury he suffered at York, but it was more than two years ago and medical science these days is remarkable.

“He came through three games at the back end of last season and I’m delighted to have him back on board.

“He has real quality and loads of experience. He had a big reputation at York and he will add quality, experience and depth to the back-row of the pack.

“Harry is a talented young kid. He is an exciting prospect who will add depth to the squad and that will be invaluable as the season progresses.”
