Halifax launch Women’s team

Halifax will link up with Brighouse women’s team to re-brand and become Halifax RLFC women’s team.

As part Halifax’s requirement to meet the RFL ROI community and participation pillars metrics, the club have recently been working alongside community club Brighouse Rangers regarding their ladies team.

Brighouse have recently been losing players to other professional clubs and it is hoped that players will stay when the Rangers transition into becoming Halifax.

As part of its five-year strategy plan, the Halifax RLFC Foundation have been looking at a pathway for girls to get involved in the sport in what would be a natural progression.

Fax’s director Simon Oxby commented: “This is a fantastic opportunity for a women’s rugby pathway in Halifax.

“We are excited to support this and look forward to seeing the project developing into a great success over time.”

Halifax will make a pathway for girls at Greetland, Elland and Illingworth community clubs for them to progress into the Halifax women’s team as they get older.

The new Fax women’s team will be run out of the Brighouse Sports Club.

Brighouse representative Sarah Kennedy added: “This is a really exciting opportunity and we are looking forward to building a great relationship with Halifax RLFC both now and for the future.”
