Top five try scorers in Super League in 2018
Unsurprisingly, all five of Super League’s top try scorers this year play in the backline.
Ben Barba (St Helens)
What a season it was for Barba and St Helens. The 2018 Steve Prescott Man of Steel was the best player in Super League last season and topped the list with 28 tries.
Barba might have only spent one full season in Super League, but nobody will be forgetting him anytime soon. He was an absolute ‘wow’ of a player. He is worth the ticket money alone.
The 29-year-old has returned to the NRL ahead of the 2019 season with boyhood club North Queensland Cowboys. He made 24 assists in Super League, bust 141 tackles and made 30 clean breaks.

Tom Johnstone (Wakefield Trinity)
Johnstone just seems to get better and better every single season.
It’s important to remember that the Wakefield flyer is still only 23, so he has got plenty of good years ahead of him. He came second in the try scoring list this year, with 24 to his name.
Johnstone was actually dropped by Trinity coach Chris Chester earlier on in the season, but that spurred him on to put in some electrifying performances in the second half of the season. He bust 107 tackles and made 42 clean breaks, as well as 2,925 metres. He even scored a hat-trick on his England debut against France in the autumn.

Mark Percival (St Helens)
The 24-year-old had another stellar year at club level, scoring 20 tries and coming up with 17 assists for St Helens.
Many people thought Percival was unfortunate not to play for England in their three-match Test series against New Zealand in the autumn because he was one of the best centres in Super League.
Percival, who has been included in the Super League Dream Team two years on the spin, is a firm fan favourite at the Totally Wicked Stadium. He bust 179 tackles in 2018, making 40 clean breaks.

Greg Eden (Castleford Tigers)
Eden struggled with injuries this year, but still managed to finish fourth in the try scoring rankings. He holds a solid reputation for being an incredible finisher.
The 28-year-old has bagged 18 tries in 15 games in Super League this year. He also provided three assists for the Tigers, as well as busting 51 tackles and making 29 clean breaks.
Despite the injuries, it was an impressive year for Eden, so he will be hoping for more of the same form – excluding the injuries – in 2019.

Ben Jones-Bishop (Wakefield Trinity)
The Jamaica international has been one of the best wingers in Super League for a number of years now.
Jones-Bishop finished fifth in the try scoring list for 2018, with 18 to add to his tally. He bust 44 tackles last season, busting 26 tackles.
The 30-year-old also topped off the year by helping Jamaica become the first-ever Caribbean team to qualify for a World Cup as they won the Americas Championship.
