Tony Clubb receives praise from Wigan team-mate as he takes up his new role
George Williams thinks Wigan team-mate Tony Clubb will thrive in his new leadership role.
Clubb is the newest member of Wigan’s four-man leadership team, alongside Sean O’Loughlin, Liam Farrell and Tommy Leuluai.
And England international Williams believes it was a good decision by head coach Adrian Lam to include Clubb in the group.
He told loverugbyleague.com: “He’s been here a while now, when we signed him from London we didn’t know loads about him but he’s probably one of the best blokes you’ll ever meet.
“Everyone who plays against him calls him you know what, but once they meet him in person they realise what a good bloke he is.
“He’ll have a voice as well, if young lads go and speak to him he’s probably the voice that will pass it on.”
Clubb arrived at the Warriors from London Broncos back in 2014 and quickly became a fan favourite at the DW Stadium.
On his appointment in the leadership group, Clubb said: “Like what I said to some of the young lads, I’m here for them.
“Anything they feel they can’t speak to Lammy [Adrian Lam] about or they don’t want to speak about then come and speak to me and I’ll help them out any way I can, it could be younger or it could be older lads.”
“It was quite overwhelming to be picked by the other lads. It wasn’t something I was expecting but I’m excited by it, it gives me an extra role.
“Nothing will really change with my on field stuff, I’ll carry on doing what I do but I get to go in a few more meetings and make a few more decisions which is quite nice, normally they’re training ones so the boys like that.”
