Tom Burgess extends South Sydney stay

England star Tom Burgess has penned a new deal with South Sydney that will see him remain at the club until the end of 2023.

The 26-year-old’s new contract could possibly see him finish his career at the Rabbitohs, as he will be 31 when his deal expires.

Burgess has made 113 appearances since joining the Rabbitohs back in 2013, and is set to become a legend at the club alongside brother Sam, who is also contracted to the club until the end of the 2023 season.

On committing to the Rabbitohs, Burgess said: “Souths is all I’ve known, and I’m really pumped to be signed up long-term now.

“The club gave me a chance when I came to Australia for the first time, a 20-year-old young lad, not knowing what to expect.

“Now six or seven years down the track, I’m still enjoying my football here.

“I love calling Sydney my home and I wouldn’t want to play anywhere else in the NRL than with the Rabbitohs.”

Tom’s brother George has reportedly turned down an offer from Parramatta Eels and will stay at the Rabbitohs until at least the end of the year.

George’s current deal expires at the end of the season, but he is backing himself to earn a new contract under Wayne Bennett.
