There’s always tension between English and Australian teams, insists Jason Robinson
Jason Robinson says the World Club Challenge is not just Wigan against Sydney, but Super League against the NRL.
The Warriors take on the Roosters in the 2019 World Club Challenge at the DW Stadium on Sunday night, 7pm kick-off.
The dual-code legend knows what it takes to win a World Club Challenge, winning the 1994 title against Brisbane Broncos in their own back yard as underdogs.
“I’ve played in so many big games over the years, but one of those that sticks out in my mind, ’94 it was Wigan against Brisbane out in Brisbane,” Robinson recalled.
“It was one of the toughest games I’ve played in, we got written off as a team – I think sometimes you’re seen as an inferior player in an inferior league.
“This is not just Wigan against Sydney, this is Super League against the NRL.
“It’s always been fierce over the years, it doesn’t matter what it is. England against Australia, there’s always that tension there, there’s always that rivalry – it’s great – you rise to it, all the chat that goes on, you just want to go out there and prove it.”
