Trent Robinson: France don’t get the credit they deserve in rugby league

Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson feels as though France are under appreciated in rugby league.

Robinson began his professional coaching career in Super League with French outfit Catalans Dragons in 2011 and spent two seasons at the club, winning 59% of his games in charge.

The 41-year-old has been at the Roosters since 2013, winning two NRL Premierships and a World Club Challenge with the Australian side.

Sydney have spent time training with Championship outfit Toulouse Olympique ahead of their World Club Challenge clash against Wigan Warriors on Sunday.

“[Back home] we keep our eyes sort of closed in on Australia and New Zealand,” Robinson told NRL.com.

“I love rugby league and I love rugby league in France.

“They don’t get the credibility they deserve, so I wanted to highlight that. That was one of the reasons [why we came to France].

“They’re good quality players, they’re a good quality country and they love their rugby league.”

The Roosters face the Warriors in the 2019 World Club Challenge at the DW Stadium on Sunday, 7pm kick-off.
