Championship round-up: Richardson helps Leigh win, Sheffield stun Bradford, York batter Barrow
There were a couple of tight affairs in round three of the Championship.
Leigh Centurions came from being 14-10 behind at half-time to secure an emphatic 29-20 win over Featherstone Rovers at the Leigh Sports Village.
St Helens players Matty Costello, Danny Richardson, Jack Ashworth, Luke Douglas (loan) and Aaron Smith featured for Leigh on dual-registration.
Gregg McNally, Douglas, Tom Spencer, Martyn Ridyard and Smith scored for the Centurions.
Halifax edged Batley Bulldogs 20-18 at The Shay on Sunday afternoon.
James Saltonstall, Steve Tyrer and Shaun Robinson crossed for Fax’s tries, while Tryer kicked four goals from as many attempts.
Paul Sykes put in a man of the match display to help Dewsbury Rams pick up their first win of the season as they beat Swinton Lions 38-24 in a game that saw 11 tries scored.
Tom Garratt (2), Sykes, Robbie Ward, Rob Worrincy and Owen Harrison scored Dewsbury’s tries.
Sheffield Eagles caused an upset on Friday night as they beat Bradford Bulls 24-10 at the Olympic Legacy Park.
Josh Guzdek, James Glover, Brad Knowles and Joel Farrell bagged tries for the Eagles. Sheffield’s Ben Blackmore was sin-binned in the second half for fighting and Bradford’s James Green was red-carded for punching, while Bulls half-back Jordan Lilley was sin-binned for dissent in the 76th minute.
Andy Ackers scored two second half tries to inspire Toronto Wolfpack to a 30-6 win over Widnes Vikings at Kingston Park in Newcastle.
Blake Wallace, Gary Wheeler and Ricky Leutele also crossed the whitewash for the Wolfpack.
Toulouse Olympique claimed their first victory of the campaign as they eased past Rochdale Hornets 42-12 at the Stade Ernest Argeles on Saturday.
Gavin Marguerite (2), Johnathon Ford, Stan Robin (2), Dean Parata, Ilias Bergal and William Barthau scored for Toulouse. Warrington Wolves front-rower Sitaleki Akauola was standout for Rochdale on dual-registration.
York City Knights put in a dominating display as they scored nine tries to thrash Barrow Raiders 56-0 at Bootham Crescent.
Joe Batchelor (2), Dave Petersen, Liam Salter, Connor Robinson (2) and Jason Bass (3) all went over for the Knights. Barrow pair Jarrad Stack and Nathan Mossop were sin-binned in the second half for repeated offences.
