Widnes takeover involving consortium agreed subject to RFL approval
A consortium have agreed to take over Widnes, subject to RFL approval.
The Vikings were placed into administration last Friday and since then, the club alongside VIQI raised over £100,000 in fundraising, along with over 1,200 people committing to monthly VIQI memberships, helping to secure the potential future of the club.
On Thursday, a consortium came together with the administrators and agreed a deal in principle to take the club forward.
The takeover involving the proposed consortium is subject to contracts and RFL approval, which is expected to be granted on Friday.
And once it has been approved by the sport’s governing body, the sporting sanctions, including the 12-point penalty for Widnes in the Championship, will then be applied.
The club can confirm that the members of the consortium are Chris Price, Jason Shaw, Roger Harrison MBE, Stuart Murphy, David Dean, Tracey Glendinning, and Rod Steele.
With Shaw taking a place within this group, this allows Vikings Quids In (VIQI) to have a presence within the consortium.
At this stage, Sunday’s home game against Featherstone Rovers remains scheduled to go ahead. The club will verify this to supporters when final confirmation is given on Friday.
