Danny Brough apologises for late kick miss

Danny Brough apologised for missing a difficult late kick that would have completed a remarkable turnaround for his Wakefield side against Warrington.

Brough’s effort drifted wide of the posts with less than two minutes on the clock as Trinity came up short.

Had he kicked it, then it would have forced only the second instance of golden point in Super League since it was introduced at the start of the year.

Brough told Sky Sports: “When it left the boot, I thought it was over. I’m gutted it didn’t go in.

“But it shouldn’t have come down to a goal kick. We give them too big a start. When we started believing we could really challenge them, we looked the better side.

“They ran a lot harder than us first half, they’re good at slowing down the play the ball.

“Stef (Ratchford) kicked them all and I missed two, so that’s the difference. It’s something I’ll work hard on this week, and I can only apologise to the team and try and work harder this week.”

Ratchford overtook Brough as Super League’s best percentage goalkicker this season as a result.
