Challenge Cup round-up: Thatto Heath cruising, Bradford edge Keighley, Workington leave it late

There were a number of tight affairs in round four of the Challenge Cup. 

Halifax left it late as they snatched a 28-24 victory against Hunslet at the South Leeds Stadium.

James Woodburn-Hall, Ed Barber, Quentin Laulu-Togaga’e, Elliott Morris and Liam Cooper went over for Fax.

Jack Owens and Owen Buckley both scored hat-tricks as Widnes Vikings thrashed Oldham 54-14 at Bower Fold.

Ryan Ince, Keanan Brand, Lloyd Roby and Jordan Johnstone also went over for the Chemics. Oldham pair Scott Law and Phil Joy were sin-binned late in the game for fighting.

York City Knights eased past Barrow Raiders 32-16 at Craven Park.

Marcus Stock, Perry Whiteley, Jack Teanby, Josh Jordan-Roberts and Matty Marsh crossed the whitewash for the Knights.

Dan Abram scored a last-minute winner to seal a 22-21 victory for Rochdale Hornets against Whitehaven at the Recreation Ground.

Ben Morris, Declan Kay and Shaun Ainscough scored for the Hornets. Abram was sin-binned in the first half for slowing down play.

Batley Bulldogs battered amateur side Lock Lane 62-6 at the Fox’s Biscuits Stadium.

Danny Yates, Tyler Dickinson, Wayne Reittie (3), Michael Ward, Louis Jouffret (2), Sam Smeaton (2) and Tom Hemingway got on the scoresheet for the Bulldogs.

Cameron Leeming bagged a hat-trick to inspire Dewsbury Rams to a 32-6 victory over community club West Hull at the Tetley’s Stadium on Sunday.

Andy Gabriel and Dale Morton also scored for the Rams.

Leigh Centurions progressed through to the fifth round of the Challenge Cup with a 34-12 win over Sheffield Eagles at the Olympic Legacy Park.

Greg McNally, Toby Adamson, Mitch Cox, Nick Gregson, Jonny Pownall and Sam Brooks went over for the Centurions.

Doncaster thrashed Featherstone Lions 46-6 at the LD Nutrition Stadium.

Matty Chrimes (2), Sam Doherty, Richard Owen, Stefanos Bastas, Kieran Cross (3) and Connor Bower scored for the Dons. Doncaster forward Brandon Douglas was sin-binned in the second half for holding down.

Papua New Guinea international Thompson Teteh scored a hat-trick to guide Featherstone Rovers to a 38-14 win over Swinton Lions at the LD Nutrition Stadium.

Jack Broadbent, Scott Wheeldon, Watson Boas, Brad Day and Cameron King scored for Rovers. Swinton’s Lewis Hatton was sin-binned on the half hour mark for dissent, while Featherstone forward Wheeldon was yellow carded on the hour for retaliation.

Amateur outfit Thatto Heath Crusaders came up with the biggest shock of the Challenge Cup so far as they edged past League 1 side North Wales Crusaders at Crusader Park.

Lewis Foster, Connor Dwyer and Matty Norton scored for the St Helens-based club.

Bradford Bulls were made to work for a 14-12 win by neighbours Keighley Cougars at Cougar Park.

Ethan Ryan and George Flanagan crossed for the Bulls, with Elliott Minchella adding three goals.

A late field goal from Jamie Doran handed Workington Town a 21-20 win over Newcastle Thunder at Derwent Park.

Scott Rooke, Tyllar Mellor and Sam Hopkins got on the scoresheet for Town.
