Menzie Yere re-signs for Sheffield; goes out on loan to Doncaster
Sheffield have re-signed stalwart Menzie Yere after he finally received indefinite leave to remain in the UK.
Yere, 35, has scored 192 tries in almost 300 appearances since arriving at the Eagles in 2009 but was facing deportation at the end of last season due to issues applying for citizenship.
He missed the first half of last season due to visa issues, but the Eagles have now confirmed his return on a contract until the end of the season.
They have sent him out on a month’s loan immediately to local rivals Doncaster, and he goes in to their squad for the Challenge Cup match with Batley on Sunday.
Eagles General Manager Liam Claffey said: “It’s great news that Menzie has been granted leave to remain, none more so than for him and his family.
“Menzie and his family are indebted to people like Chairman Chris Noble, our dedicated supporters & Chris Jones at Work Permit Experts for their tireless assistance especially over the last few months.
“Menzie has kept himself busy during the interim in the community game with appearances for Sheffield Hawks RLFC & Stocksbridge RUFC but he requires some much needed game time at a professional level.
“Thanks to Carl Hall at Doncaster for helping to enable this move, we are sure Menzie will be fantastic addition as they push for promotion this season with some key fixtures over the next few weeks.”
