Super League Team of the Week: Round 12

There were some excellent performances in round twelve of Super League, but who made our latest Team of the Week?

Lachlan Coote (St Helens) 

Bagged a 20-point haul, courtesy of a try and eight conversions. Coote side-stepped Jake Connor for his try like he wasn’t even there, had two assists to his name and produced a season-high nine tackle busts in yet another sensational outing.

Adam Swift (St Helens)

Bagged a hat-trick on his first Saints appearance since August. Chances have been hard to come by, but with Mark Percival out injured with hamstring troubles, this could be the start of a good run of games for the flying outside back. Regardless of whether his stint in the team is a lengthy one, Swift has certainly given Justin Holbrook food for thought.

Lee Kershaw (Wakefield Trinity)

Had a debut to remember as Trinity inflicted a ninth defeat of the season on David Furner’s Rhinos. The 19-year-old supported Mason Caton-Brown and showed an incredible turn of pace to race the length of the field to open the scoring. He also made seven tackle busts and ran for 206m.

Kevin Naiqama (St Helens)  

Picked up four well-taken tries to take his 2019 tally to six. His final two took some real finishing, but the Fijian made it look easy. Naiqama and Swift formed a seamless combination which could prove to be profitable for Saints as the season progresses.

Jermaine McGillvary (Huddersfield Giants)

Scored a match-winning double as the Giants leapt above Wigan in the Betfred Super League table. The England international ran for 182m, made an average gain of 11m and kept opposing winger Rhys Williams quiet for the majority, despite his breakaway score.

Blake Austin (Warrington Wolves) 

Showed strength rather than finesse for his 12^th try in 12 games and demonstrated his sleight of hand to pick up two further assists. The Portugal international broke the line on nine occasions and kept up his record of assisting in two-thirds of Warrington’s games in 2019. 

Jonny Lomax (St Helens)

Inspired the Saints, picking up two tries and three assists, as St Helens put Lee Radford’s Hull FC to the sword. The half-back made a whopping 16 tackle busts, produced four clean breaks and even managed the time orchestrate Saints’ impressive showing as they made it two wins from two over Easter. 

Joe Philbin (Warrington Wolves)

Miraculously manoeuvred the ball behind his head to score his first of the campaign, despite two defenders being around him, before running a great line to pick up a second against a poor Hull KR outfit. The 24-year-old also made a season-high seven tackle busts in what proved to be one of his best performances of the season.

Joey Lussick (Salford Red Devils)

Sent Adam Walker crashing over in the first-half and crossed for a second-half try, although it all proved to be in-vein for Ian Watson’s side. Lussick muscled up in defence with 19 tackles, made 51m and was lively around the ruck, producing a season-high eight carries.

Julian Bousquet (Catalans Dragons)

Rampaged his way over for two scores as Catalans picked up a fifth win in seven matches. Bousquet was the recipient of some quick hands by Sam Kasiano for his second score but proved to be just as lethal as his fellow forward with ball-in-hand. As well as his tries, the Frenchman made an average gain of 8m per carry.

Joe Greenwood (Wigan Warriors)

Picked up another two tries to help Wigan pick up a narrow victory over Salford. Greenwood made a season-high 104m over his 15 carries and helped out with 27 tackles as the Warriors were forced to do it the hard way at the AJ Bell Stadium. 

Justin Horo (Wakefield Trinity) 

Horo showed his versatility over the course of their Yorkshire derby, playing in a variety of positions without letting up on his quality. The New Zealander showed his steel in defence with a season-high 27 tackles and made three runs from dummy half during a brief stint at number nine! 

Brett Ferres (Leeds Rhinos)

Linked up well with the returning Trent Merrin to pick up his second try of the season. Ferres made a clean break and a further 89m, his second-highest tally of the campaign up to now. The 33-year-old has been subject to some criticism this year, yet this performance showed signs of what he has in his locker.
