Adrian Lam: Wigan defence exceptional and our attack will come

Wigan coach Adrian Lam lauded his side’s recent defensive displays, and promises fans that their expansive attack will soon click into gear.

The Warriors beat London 18-8 at the DW Stadium on Thursday night to move within two points of fourth-placed Wakefield.

Wigan have only conceded one try in their last two games, having beaten Castleford 6-4 last Saturday.

Speaking after their win over the Broncos, Lam said: “It wasn’t the prettiest game and it was frustrating to watch but the players put their energy into their defence, so that was a big positive.

“London’s only try came from a kick so there have been two weeks where we have only conceded one try.

“We’ve played four games in 14 days, and there are players out of position. The public want to see more of that which is what my philosophy is about, so we will get that ticked off in the next couple of weeks.

“We just need to make sure we win those type of games, it wasn’t our best attack but our defence was exceptional.”

Wigan face rivals Warrington twice and Catalans at the Nou Camp within the next three weeks.

On the month of May, Lam added: “We are aware that we have got a massive month of rugby coming up, so maybe that was in our sights against London.

“We are in the Challenge Cup against Warrington, at the Nou Camp against Catalans and then we’ve got Warrington at Anfield, so it’s a big month for us.”

Lam confirmed Dan Sarginson, Tony Clubb and Joe Burgess will return for next Sunday’s trip to Warrington in the Challenge Cup.
