Paddy Flynn retires while Rochdale bring in quartet

Paddy Flynn has retired from rugby league due to injury but Rochdale have made four new signings.

Flynn suffered a full thickness tear in Rochdale’s game against Barrow 10 weeks ago and has undergone surgery to reattach his pectoral muscle.

Meanwhile, the Hornets have offered permanent deals to Rochdale Mayfield utility Lewis Sheridan and Wigan St Cuthberts back-rower Michael Coleman.

Wigan duo James Worthington and Reece Hamlett have also joined Rochdale on a month’s loan.

Rochdale coach Matt Calland said: “Reece is a local lad and we want as many of those as possible around the squad.

“James has a first-team squad number at Wigan and is a strong running, solid centre, who will add to our options in the backs.

“Mike comes from Wigan St Cuthberts, but has been training with Salford after Martin Gleeson took him up there.

“Lewis is a very experienced player who has been the captain of Mayfield and has had a couple of spells at Hornets before.”
