1895 Cup round-up: Leigh impress, Batley beat Rochdale, Dewsbury avenge Swinton defeat
There were a couple of tough battles in round two of the 1895 Cup.
Batley Bulldogs eased past Rochdale Hornets 38-18 at The Fox’s Biscuits Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
James Brown, Lewis Galbraith, Jack Downs, Alistair Leak, Dom Brambani, Dane Manning and Louis Jouffret went over for the hosts.
Leigh Centurions ran in 11 tries to batter Workington Town 62-12 at the Leigh Sports Village.
Mitch Cox (2), Greg McNally (3), Josh Eaves, James Bentley, Josh Woods, Brad Holroyd, Luke Douglas and Iain Thornley scored for the Lancashire outfit. Workington hooker Dec O’Donnell – who is on loan from Leigh – was sin-binned on the hour for holding down.
York City Knights were made to work for a 30-16 victory by Newcastle Thunder at Bootham Crescent.
Will Oakes, Kriss Brining, Junior Vaivai, Matty Marsh and Marcus Stock crossed the whitewash for the Knights.
Dewsbury Rams claimed revenge on Swinton Lions‘ win in the Championship the week before as the Rams tamed the Lions 44-26 at the Tetley’s Stadium.
Lucas Walshaw, Rob Worrincy (2), Sam Day (2), Toby Richardson, Kyle Trout and Lewis Heckford scored for the home side.
Doncaster edged past Oldham 24-12 at the Vestacare Stadium in a tough battle between the League 1 sides.
Matty Chrimes, Watson Boas, Callum Ogden and Sam Doherty got on the scoresheet for the Dons. Doncaster had Ryan Boyle and Levy Nzoungou sin-binned in the latter stages for repeated team offences and an off-the-ball incident respectively.
