Twitter Talk: Mixed bag over next venue for Magic Weekend
Social media went wild when asked the fans “where should Magic Weekend be held in 2020?“, so here are some of the results.
The 2019 Magic Weekend at Anfield attracted a crowd of 56,869 over the two days.
The crowd was the lowest since the 2010 Magic in Edinburgh and was the second lowest ever for a Magic Weekend.
It has previously been held at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, Edinburgh’s Murrayfield, Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, Newcastle United’s St James’ Park and Liverpool’s Anfield.
We asked our followers “where should Magic Weekend be held in 2020?” and the following were just a handful of responses:
Barcelona. 30k @SuperLeague record crowd this year. What better way to capitalise on that? A great trip for fans able to attend. Think Magic needs to be one-offs now it's moved from Newcastle #rugbyleague

Mix the world club challenge with the magic weekend. Have a 12 team nrl vs super league weekend spread over a bank holiday you will get 50k plus in the ground at 1 time

London – Where the sport has a presence, success sustaining SL status and a city which is producing SL players. Yet we still haven’t scratched the surface. If the concept is going to be used instead as a jolly for the converted and revenue making exercise I’ve no interest.

Nottingham for me, have a rugby weekend include the championship teams , have over the Easter weekend, get rid for the 2 games over Easter,

In a ground that is the right size., which is smaller than used so far. Playing matches at Anfield ‘,Etihad etc gets media attention but the game is not helped by it being played in what looks like an almost empty stadium.

I'd been keen for Nottingham. The Midlands amateur league is getting better and better, it's not too far from the heartlands, the city centre is walking distance from the ground and it's a great night out!

Bristol. Good city centre and a development area. Not sure what the stadiums are like though.

Manchester but to be honest the UK should be the only option. If you want international relations to get stronger start a mini comp in that country not take a part of our league away from us

To help spread the game logically A midlands ground should be used, Birmingham, Stoke, Leicester, Wolverhampton would be worth considering
