Joe Westerman knocks dislocated knee back in place before playing on in Hull derby
Hull FC forward Joe Westerman dislocated his kneecap in the Hull derby, slapped it back into place and played on!
The Sky Sports cameras caught the former England international showing tremendous courage and bravery in the dying embers of his side’s 18-10 derby loss at Hull KR.
But his coach Lee Radford revealed that a knee dislocation is a regular occurrence for Westerman.
Speaking after the game, Radford said: “He does that every fortnight.
“It has genuinely come out on numerous occasions – he needs some ligaments in there somewhere!
“It’s a gladiator sport and we had no interchanges left so he stayed out there.”

Westerman provided an update on his injury via the club, and reckons he will be fit to face St Helens next week.
He said: “It’s sweet, to be honest. I expect to be training next week and I can’t really see myself missing our next game against St Helens next Friday.
“I just twisted in the tackle and Mose Masoe came in with the chop and my knee just popped out. There was no malice in the tackle or anything like that.
“I looked at my leg and saw my knee cap on the side and I felt like I had to just smack it back in. It wasn’t really an excruciating pain. It freaked me out more than anything because it looked so weird.”
