Dear James,

The video ref has been a great addition to rugby league but if we’re trying to speed up the game, should there be a limit on how long is spent looking at things?

If they’ve not found evidence to over-rule the infield decision within 30 seconds then I fail to see how they can have conclusive evidence the infield decision was wrong.

Editor’s comment: A fair suggestion, especially given the “conclusive evidence” guidance. Anyone who watches the NRL will be amazed at how different their video referee decision making is – even simple things like cutting the length of the clips and speeding up their delivery (rather than a big pause after decision is made to refer it to the video referee) improves the experience of it significantly.
