Woman of Steel shortlist revealed
Three Women’s Super League players have been shortlisted for the Telegraph Woman of Steel award.
A poll of all players from the eight Women’s Super League clubs was closed earlier this week, and the three contenders will be invited to the Betfred Super League Awards night at the Lowry Theatre.
Unbeaten league leaders Castleford are represented by Kelsey Gentles, the 21-year-old centre who will be looking to emulate the success of team-mate Georgia Roche, who won last year’s award.
Also on the short list is Australian half-back Courtney Hill, who helped Leeds to challenge Cup glory, and St Helens and England back-rower Emily Rudge.
All three of the contenders will be in action for their clubs in the next few days, with two rounds of matches remaining in the regular BWSL season before the top four play-offs.
Leeds make the short trip to Wakefield Trinity on Saturday, Saints have a local derby against the reigning champions Wigan on Sunday, and Castleford can clinch the League Leaders’ Shield when they host York City Knights at the Mend-a-Hose Jungle on Tuesday night.
