London relegated from Super League
London Broncos have been relegated from Super League after a 19-10 defeat at Wakefield.
The Broncos have captured the hearts of many during a gutsy first season since promotion from the Championship and their shock Million Pound Game victory over Toronto Wolfpack, but they couldn’t pull off a miracle at Belle Vue.
Written off before the start of the season, Danny Ward’s side won 10 games to take the relegation battle to a four-way final day decider.
Wakefield knew a win would keep them up, and they put in a thoroughly professional performance in a situation they probably didn’t think they would end the season in, having finished fifth in the past two seasons.
Indeed Trinity had not been bottom of the table for the whole season, and even with a loss, knew that Hull KR and Huddersfield would need results in their fixtures to send Trinity down.
An early Danny Brough penalty settled Trinity nerves, before Kieron Dixon missed a simple penalty to reply and then bombed a try in the corner.
He was made to pay, as he watched opposite number Ryan Hampshire cross on the left after Morgan Escare did well to keep the ball alive.
Hampshire added his second after the break, taking on a superb pass by Jacob Miller, and Brough’s excellent touchline conversion made it 14-0 and put the game beyond the Broncos.
Reece Lyne’s try and a Brough drop goal made sure for Wakefield.
Elsewhere, Huddersfield came from behind with winger Louis Senior scoring four tries to beat Catalans 24-22.
The Dragons went in to the game missing several senior players, including the departing Tony Gigot, and named 13 Frenchmen in their 17.
Hull KR also secured their survival by taking Salford to a golden point game at AJ Bell Stadium, a try in the dying seconds by Joey Lussick, converted by Krisnan Inu tying things up at 16-all, before Inu won it with a drop goal.
