Ashton Golding remains tight-lipped on future

Leeds full-back Ashton Golding refused to be drawn on his future after his man of the match performance for Featherstone in their Championship Grand Final defeat to Toronto.

Golding, 23, starred at the back for Rovers in their run through the play-offs, which included away wins at Leigh, York and Toulouse.

He made just one appearance for the Rhinos in 2019, in the Challenge Cup win over League 1 side Workington, but has turned out 20 times for Featherstone on dual-registration.

Reports have linked him with a move to Huddersfield, and when asked in his post-match interview in Toronto, what his future holds, he said: “Jamaica international against England Knights on 20th October at Headingley, be there or be square!”

The former Stanningley amateur player made his Leeds debut in 2013 and signed a four-year deal, only to lose his place to Jack Walker.

On the game, Golding said: “We always knew it was going to be really tough challenge. The better team won. They were clinical.

“We can take a lot from it. We defended like our lives depended on it.

“Quite emotional to say it’s my sign off for Featherstone, but next year anything can happen.”
