Toronto Wolfpack won’t play “home” games on the road in Europe in 2020

Toronto Wolfpack will not be taking any Super League games on the road to Europe in 2020, the club has confirmed.

A number of locations have speculated in recent months, including Copenhagen, Barcelona and Dublin, while an offer to stage a game in the Netherlands was made last week.

That speculation continued, despite a club spokesperson confirming to Love Rugby League in September that all home games will be held in the UK when the climate means it isn’t possible to play in Canada.

Due to the harsh Canadian winter, and the fact Lamport Stadium is converted for community use over the winter, it is unlikely they can host any Super League games until the end of April.

Chairman Bob Hunter told PA that “although the club remain committed to exploring new venues abroad, there has not been enough time to put those plans in place for 2020” and that “all those games will be in the UK.”

When the Super League fixtures are released on November 5, the Wolfpack are likely to have fixtures in blocks of home and away games, but will be forced to play three home games in the UK in the early stages of the season.

In their 2019 Championship campaign, they took home games on the road to Newcastle, Hull and London.
