Paper Talk: Toronto confident on Tuilagi, clubs keen on Wolfpack fringe stars, Sheens still on the lookout

Toronto confident but concerned over Tuilagi deal

A stumbling block to Toronto signing England rugby union star Manu Tuilagi could be the overseas quota. The Wolfpack remain confident of luring the Leicester Tigers man, reports League Express, and his salary would be exempt from the cap in the first year. Born in Samoa, he would typically be classed as non-federation trained, and the Wolfpack have no further space in their squad.

Brierley interesting trio

On his way out of Toronto could be former Leigh star Ryan Brierley, with League Weekly reporting that Featherstone, Halifax and Newcastle are interested in signing the half-back, who is still on contract with the Wolfpack for 2020.

But in League Weekly, it’s reported that Brierley along with Greg Worthington and Gary Wheeler, will be significant parts of a dual-registration deal between Toronto and Bradford.

Leeds close in on Leeming

Leeds are closing in on the signing of Kruise Leeming from Huddersfield, with League Express reporting that young forward Owen Trout will go in the other direction, plus a sizeable fee to the Giants.

Widnes still in the market

New Widnes coach Tim Sheens says the Vikings are still in the market for new players. He told League Express that he would like another front-rower and another two backs, including a centre and a full-back or half-back.
