Paper Talk: Escare on loan market, Mulhern on Melbourne radar & Patton offered to clubs
There is plenty of transfer talk in the latest papers.
Escare on loan market
Wigan coach Adrian Lam says Morgan Escare would benefit from another loan stint at a Super League rival, reports League Weekly.
Lam told League Weekly: “It would probably be a good thing for him to play Super League somewhere. But we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.”
Patton offered to clubs
Declan Patton’s Warrington future appears all but over after he was offered to other clubs last week, reports League Express.
The Wolves made his availability known to clubs in Super League and the Championship with the view to an immediate loan move, according to League Express.
Field close to joining Parramatta
Leeds target Jai Field is close to clinching a contract with Parramatta Eels for the upcoming NRL season, reports League Weekly.
The 22-year-old utility is currently on a six-week trial with the Eels and coach Brad Arthur is keen on securing his services for 2020, according to League Weekly.
Lee out of retirement?
Whitehaven have invited vastly experienced playmaker Tommy Lee to train with them this week with a view to joining the club, reports League Express.
The 32-year-old hooker announced his retirement from rugby league last year but could be tempted to put his boots on again after his good friend Jamie Thackray initiated the move to Haven, according to League Express.
Mulhern on Melbourne radar
Paul Bunn, the man they call the “Rockhampton recruitment guru” Down Under, has returned home with a tidy portfolio of possible young and emerging Super League players for Melbourne Storm, reports League Weekly.
His list could well include Hull KR prop Robbie Mulhern, who Bunn was informed could be the next Luke Thompson, according to League Weekly.
Caton-Brown turns down Toronto
Toronto were hoping to turn to former player Mason Caton-Brown to further boost their options in the threequarter line, reports League Express.
Caton-Brown has turned down a move to Canada, which would have been on similar loan terms to those of Tony Gigot in the first instance, according to League Express.
