Michael Shenton reveals the greatest player he has played with
Castleford captain Michael Shenton has played with many great players during his career – but there is one that stands above the rest.
The 33-year-old is in his 15th season with hometown club Castleford, where he has scored 150 tries in 310 appearances for the club. He has also earned 10 caps for England.
Shenton also spent two years in 2011 and 2012 at St Helens, where he was blown away by the greatness of one player in particular – James Roby.
He said: “I’ve been massively fortunate in my career because there have been some fantastic players at Castleford, St Helens and England.
“I’ve played with some of the best players in the world, you could name the likes of Sam Burgess and Gaz Ellis but I’d say James Roby is the best.
“I’d say Robes because of how tough and durable he is. The way he comes up with big plays is incredible, he has superhuman strength and he’s just a freak.
“You just know he’s going to put in that top quality performance every week and he leads the way every time, so I’d say Robes is the greatest I’ve played with.”
