Cup round-up: Salford shock Hull

Salford City Reds reached the fifth round of the Carnegie Challenge Cup with a surprise 22-16 win over Hull FC at the KC Stadium.

Hull had opened the scoring through Kirk Yeaman, but a try from Stuart Littler and three John Wilshere goals gave the Reds a half-time lead.

Yeaman added a second after the interval with a third Hull try from Tom Briscoe, but touch downs from Richard Myler and Wilshere, who also kicked two goals, gave Salford the win.

Wigan Warriors reached the third round at the expense of Barrow Raiders, but were made to work hard at Craven Park before posting a 32-20 win.

Three tries from Shaun Ainscough and two from George Carmont were vital for the Warriors in overcoming a Barrow side that kept pace with them until well into the second half

Rangi Chase scored a hat-trick as Castleford Tigers beat Keighley Cougars 64-20 at Cougar Park, three second-half touch downs giving respectability to Keighley.

Batley Bulldogs came out on top in a close-fought contest at Hunslet Hawks: George Flanagan scored three tries and three goals, his final contribution the gamebreaker in the final minute.

Two first-half tries from Luke Branighan sent Gateshead Thunder on their way against Doncaster, the North-East side having to withstand a Dons revival late in the game.

Featherstone Rovers led 38-0 at half time against Wath Brow Hornets and went on to win 54-16, the Hornets making the game more of a contest in the second period.

A high-scoring contest saw Oldham record a 60-30 victory over FC Lezignan-Corbieres, Lucas Onyango scoring as hat-trick of tries with two apiece from Andy Ballard and Marcus St Hilaire.
