Finch released by Eels

Brett Finch has been granted a release by Parramatta amidst rumours of a move to Super League.

The half-back agreed on the terms of the release with the club this afternoon and is now free to look for another club.

“It is beneficial for the Club and for Brett that this matter has been resolved very quickly,” Eels Chief Executive Denis Fitzgerald said.

“Both parties are now able to move forward and get on with building a successful 2009.”

Finch’s manager Steve Gillis said: “All parties should be commended for handling the negotiation in a quick and professional matter.

“Brett is now able to focus on the next step in his career.”

Eels head coach Daniel Anderson said the decision allows the Club to put the focus back on football.

“On behalf of everyone at the Eels I wish Brett well in the future,” Anderson said.

Brett Finch played 51 First Grade matches for the Eels between 2007 & 2009, scoring 30 points by way of seven tries and two field goals.

He played his 200th career game while with the Club, against Brisbane at Suncorp Stadium in Round 12 of 2008, and he also achieved NSW Country selection last season.

His career tally stands at 216 NRL games with the Eels, Canberra Raiders (1999-2002) and Sydney Roosters (2003-06).
