Tongue set for Raiders return

Canberra skipper Alan Tongue is set to make a return from a wrist injury this weekend when the Raiders meet South Sydney.

The 28-year-old second rower will undergo tests later this week to establish his fitness for the clash against the Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium.

Canberra coach David Furner said he would make a decision on whether or not Tongue will line-up after a training session on Wednesday.

He said: “Alan will have to wait and see how the injury fairs after some training and we can then reassess his position.”

“Either he gets through it ok and decides to play on or he has to get surgery. Either way we’ll know this week.”

Meanwhile, youngster Josh McCrone has been named at five-eighth in place of Terry Campese who has been selected in the NSW Blues side to take on Queensland on June 3 in Melbourne.

Marc Herbert retains his place at half back after a string of good performances.

Furner added: “Josh comes back into the side this week for Campo and its great to see him get a chance to play State of Origin.”
 
“Herbie played well last week and is starting to get some form back so it will be a good test for our two young halves Monday.”
