NRL Round Up – Round 12

St George carried on their recent good form with a convincing 38-10 win over Penrith.

Two kicks from pivot Jamie Soward proved to be the catalyst for the Dragons’ opening two scores – Beau Scott collected the ball out wide for the first, and skipper Ben Hornby who rose high for the second.

The Panthers hit back through Wade Graham but Soward’s penalty meant the Dragons held the advantage 12-6 at the break.

The irrepressible Wendell Sailor scored the first of his two tries straight after the break but despite the loss of Jarrod Sammut, the Panthers were still able to register a score through Frank Pritchard.

But Sailor’s second and another score to Michael Lett put the result beyond any doubt before tries to Soward and Nick Emmett added to the home side’s tally.

Cronulla ended their nine-game losing stretch with a hard working 13-10 win over Parramatta in a dull game at Toyota Park.

As is common, the Eels scored first, this time through Joel Reddy but the Sharks were able to reply through winger Luke Covell who rose high to collect half back Scott Porter‘s towering kick.

The Eels struck back through Luke Burt who jumped on a kick and he followed this up with a conversion to give the visitors the lead at the break.

A battle of attrition followed with mistakes aplenty but Trent Barrett was able to nail his field goal to take his side in front.

Luke Covell made the game safe for the Sharks when he slotted a late penalty.

Wests Tigers crashed to their fourth straight defeat with a 14-0 loss against the New Zealand Warriors.

Conditions in Auckland made handling difficult but it was the home side who adapted quicker and got the first score through youngster Kevin Locke after neat build up play from Joel Moon and Jerome Ropati.

Inspirational full back Wade McKinnon added the Warriors’ next try by scoring under the posts and another score to Locke just before the end of the game gave the home side a convincing 14-0 scoreline.

Tigers

Newcastle outlined their premiership credentials with a powerful 22-14 win against resugent Canterbury.

With Jarrod Mullen in irrestible form, the Knights stormed into a 14-0 lead thanks to tries from Richie Fa’aoso and Scott Dureau.

Con Mika, maning his Knights debut gave the home side a handy 20-0 lead by crossing just before the break.

Canterbury replied in typical fashion and thanks to two scores from the powerful Jamal Idris and a tries through former Dragon Josh Morris and winger Bryson Goodwin, the Bulldogs were in good position to steal it.

But Wes Naiqama‘s penalty put the game out of reach for the Bulldogs and sealed the win for the Knights.

A strong forward display from Canberra stopped the rot and helped the Raiders to a 34-18 win over South Sydney.

Tries to Joel Monaghan and David Milne helped the Raiders establish a lead but the Rabbitohs hit back immediatley through Luke Capewell.

The teams traded scores through Nathan Merritt and Marc Herbert before the Rabbitohs dented Canberra’s lead further with a score from Fetuli Talanoa.

Dane Tilse bashed his way over after half time to re-establish the Raiders’ dominance before he turned provider for Tom Learoyd-Lahrs.

Nigel Plum added a further score for the Raiders before Talanoa registered his second try of the day to give some consolation for Souths.
