Barrow sign Rooney
Barrow have signed Wakefield stand-off Jamie Rooney until the end of the season.
Rooney, 29, has moved to Craven Park after Raiders Chairman Des Johnston convinced Wildcats boss John Kear to let him go.
He will go straight in to the squad for tomorrow’s league game against Toulouse, and will fill the void left by injuries to Liam Campbell and Darren Holt.
Rooney, who joined the Wildcats from Featherstone, said: “I spoke to Des over the phone and he sold the club really well. He has got big ambitions for the club and I want to be part of that.
“Hopefully I can help Barrow win the league this year.”
First choice scrum half Campbell was ruled out for the entire season with a broken collarbone and his deputy Darren Holt limped out of Sunday’s defeat against Batley with a knee injury.
Rooney won’t be eligible to play in the Northern Rail Cup Final against Widnes next weekend.
Yesterday, the Raiders sacked loose forward Andrew Brocklehurst for a serious breach of club discipline.
