Finch recovers from collapsed lung

Melbourne Storm five-eighth Brett Finch is on the mend today after having treatment for a partially collapsed lung.
 
Finch, who joined the Storm earlier this season, had scans on his chest and shoulder yesterday morning.
 
The scans showed Finch, 27, had developed a partially collapsed lung – a known complication of chest trauma, in the period following Saturday night’s win over Newcastle.
 
He was treated as an outpatient for the delayed onset injury at a Melbourne Hospital and released yesterday afternoon.
 
He is expected to return in time for the round 20 clash against Cronulla at Olympic Park.
 
Finch sustained an injury to his chest against Canberra in round 16.
 
Scans taken immediately after the Raiders game cleared him of structural damage to both his ribs and underlying lung.
 
Further scans, taken both prior to, and following the Storm’s 18-14 win over Newcastle last Saturday night, also showed no structural damage to either his ribs or underlying lung. The chest trauma sustained against Canberra is believed to have caused the referred pain Finch was feeling in his shoulder area during Saturday’s win over Newcastle.
 
“We don’t envisage any long-term complications for Brett,” Storm General Manager of Football Operations, Frank Ponissi, said today.
 
“He was feeling a lot better last night when we spoke to him and again this morning.
 
“We have the bye this weekend and we expect Brett to be back training when we reconvene next week.”
