Cougar captain hits century milestone

Keighley captain James Feather racked up his 100th successive appearance for the club against London on Sunday.

The hooker has been in the starting line-up 96 times in the Cougar’s last 100 fixtures and came off the bench in the four other games.

He was presented with an award to mark the achievement by the Cougars club chairman Neil Spence after their 60-28 win at Cougar Park on Sunday.

Head Coach Barry Eaton said: “It’s a remarkable achievement by Buster.

“Rugby League is a very physical contact sport in which injury inevitably plays a role, so for any player to be available for selection in 100 successive matches is a real feat of endurance.

“It’s even more significant when you consider the position that Buster occupies in the front row of the Cougars scrummage as hooker.

“Buster’s is also our club captain and he leads by example from the front.

“He’s a great professional player. He looks after himself well and conducts himself with great dignity away from the club”.

Meanwhile, scrum-half Danny Jones became the first Keighley player since 2001 to land ten goals in a match when he scored ten from ten against London on Sunday.

The last player to achieve that scoring feat for the Cougars was Martin Wood who booted ten goals in a 60-20 win over Barrow Raiders on 18 March 2001.

Eaton said: “Danny has been a consistent kicker for the club this season and his contribution to the team’s performance has been very valuable.

“Every rugby team needs a quality goal kicker and we’re fortunate to have one in Danny”.
