Former Hull KR and Castleford utility player Dwayne Barker has signed for Featherstone Rovers after being released by current club Halifax.

THe 25-year-old was originally a product of the Leeds Rhinos academy before moving to Hull, London Broncos, Hull KR.

He then joined Castleford Tigers for the 2007 season and helped them to win the the National League One Grand Final, but then moved back south with Harlequins.

But it did not work out for him there and he was allowed to join Halifax.

Halifax coach Matt Calland said: “We didn’t anticipate Dwayne getting much game time between now and the end of the season and with a player of his quality there is no point keeping him if he is not playing.”

“It’s not really worked out for Dwayne for one reason or another but he goes with our best wishes.

“I think he would probably have liked more football in the back row, but I feel the other back rowers have been really good for us and we have young Andy Bowman coming through as well.

“It was the best thing for both parties that he moved on.”
