Whiting signs new Hull deal
Versatile Hull star Richard Whiting has signed a new one-year deal at the KC Stadium.
The centre, stand-off, back row or full-back was out of contract at the end of the current season but will now stay with Hull for at least a further 12 months.
After agreeing the deal, Whiting said, “I am determined once again to prove my worth to the team and use this season to earn another deal with Hull.”
“I have had a tough couple of years, but with a full pre-season under my belt I am confident I can cement a regular spot in the 17.”
It has been an up and down couple of years for Whiting. He made his 101st appearance for the club last season before suffering two horrendous injuries, breaking his arm and then his leg in two places.
However, the former Featherstone man returned just as strong this season and his versatility has been a vital asset for Richard Agar’s men playing in the centres and at full-back as the current injury crisis continued to bite.
Hull coach Agar said, “Richard has shown in the last few weeks he is very much up for the challenge, there will be plenty more ahead at Hull FC and I know he will attack them with all he has got.
“It has been a difficult couple of years for him, but with a good pre-season under his belt he will come back a much stronger, more physical and better Richard Whiting.”
He added, “He is a model professional who works hard on and off the pitch and he is a player we can always rely on.”
Since his debut in 2004 he has made 117 appearances in the irregular hoops bagging 37 tries and is now just 2 league appearances from 100 in the Black and White.
He has also represented England since joining Hull as well as picking up the accolades of Super League Young Player of the Year (2005) and Super League Community Player of the Year (2007).
Whiting was also part of the 2005 Challenge Cup winning team as well as the side that lost out in the Super League Grand Final of 2006.
Hull FC Chief Executive James Rule added, “Richard has shown determination and dedication to battle back from two nasty injuries to play a key role for us this season and I know he is already focussed on making an even bigger contribution in 2010.”
