Finnigan out for season

Huddersfield back-rower Simon Finnigan has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a wrist injury.

The former Widnes, Salford and Bradford player, 27, suffered wrist ligament damage during the Giants’ 42-16 win over Celtic Crusaders last week.

Finnigan is now waiting to hear whether he requires surgery on the injury, and joins Danny Kirmond and Kevin Brown on the sidelines, both out with knee injuries.

Coach Nathan Brown said: “Finny has been doing it tough since he joined us, and this is just the latest blow for him.

“He’s already due to have an operation on his neck and now he may also need wrist surgery.

And I think this sums up the way things have gone for him.

“Because he was playing for Ireland in last autumn’s World Cup, he hasn’t had a real break and that’s really taken its toll on his body.

“As a result, I think we’ve only seen him playing at around 75-80% this season.

“So, hopefully after surgery and after a bit of a rest, we’ll be able to see the best of Simon Finnigan next season.”

Fellow back-rower Jamahl Lolesi has also been ruled out of Huddersfield’s final regular season game – against Wigan on Sunday.
