Featherstone make double signing
Featherstone have announced the signings of back rower Jon Grayshon and half-back Liam Finn for the 2010 season.
Rovers made the announcement prior to their excellent play-off victory over Sheffield on Friday, and they could now face one of their new signings first hand next Friday – Grayshon is currently on loan at Widnes, Featherstone’s next play-off opponents.
Grayshon, 26, has spent the past few months on loan at the Stobart Stadium from Harlequins and returns to Yorkshire after a disappointing spell in the capital that saw him make just three substitute appearances for the club.
He said: “I’ve been in London for three years now and although I’ve enjoyed my time down there I wanted to return to the area and settle down up here so when Featherstone came in I was happy with the offer and being close to home it’s ideal. I came down a couple of weeks ago with Daryl and he showed me round the facilities and explained how they are being developed. It all looks very good and impressive and there is more than enough training-wise, so I am really looking forward to next season.”
Featherstone chief executive Andy Prout said: “We are excited at the thought of Jon giving us more power up front. He’s certainly proved a handful in the two fixtures that we have faced him this season. Liam will give us an extra option at halfback and is another improvement to the squad for 2010.”
Finn moves to the Chris Moyles Stadium from Dewsbury Rams, who he has helped lead to the Championship 1 title.
Coach Daryl Powell added: “I feel that Liam is going to be an outstanding acquisition in terms of his game management, his kicking game and his ability to play 6,7,9, or 13. It is going to add so much to us from an experience point of view and a calmness and composure that we have not had at times this season. His communication levels are special as well, so I foresee him being a real top quality signing for us.”
The Irish international has previously played for Halifax and Wakefield.
Finn said: “The opportunity to join Rovers arose when I spoke to Daryl and Ryan Sheridan and I jumped at the chance as it’s the first opportunity I’ve had to return. I enjoyed playing at the club last time and didn’t want to leave but at the time I couldn’t drive and found it difficult getting to training, so I’m just happy to be back and be given the chance of adding something to the club.”
