Tuqiri to become a Tiger

Wests Tigers are set to pull of the biggest signings of NRL history if Lote Tuqiri opts to sign on the dotted line.

The Tigers are reportedly ready to offer the 30-year-old dual international a two-year deal which could be clinched when club officials meet him and his manager this afternoon.

Tigers Chief Executive Stephen Humphreys said he was keen to land Tuqiri.

He told The Daily Telegraph: “We have made no secret of the fact that we’re interested in him if he’s keen to return to the NRL.”

“We have been pretty patient as he has taken his time to think through what he wants the next phase of his sporting career to be. I think now that he’s ready to make his decision.

“The meeting that we plan to have with his manager … we would like to get some clarity around that. We would like to know now where he’s at and whether there is potential for a deal or not.”

Tuqiri was reportedly ready to join French Rugby Union side Bayonne but negotiations collapsed.

The former Brisbane Bronco was sensationally sacked by the Australian Rugby Union, but details of the reason why have yet to emerge.
