Keighley set for administration blow

Newly-promoted Keighley have avoided being shut down, but have applied to go in to administration.

The Cougars, who won the Championship 1 Grand Final just two months ago, had winding-up proceedings adjourned until January 27th in a hearing at London’s High Court.

In a statement, the club said it would like to reassure fans that this allows them to explore all potential avenues and until then it is business as usual.

General Manager Helen Carter said: “‘We are still exploring every avenue available to us but we need to take precautions to safeguard the future of the club. I feel confident that the club will continue to strive for success both on and off the field.”

A hearing on Friday, December 18 will determine the success of their application for administration, which will more than likely result in them starting the season with a points deduction.

Winding-up proceedings were brought against the club when they were unable to reach agreement with HM Revenue and Customs over an unpaid tax bill.
