Harris leads Wales to Legends of Rugby final

Crusaders assistant coach Iestyn Harris led a Wales team to second place in a four-team “Legends of Rugby” tournament last Thursday.

The Welsh were beaten one try to nil in the Final against the New Zealand All Golds.

The indoor non-contact tournament was played in Sheffield and also included England and a “Buccaneers” side that mainly consisted of legendary Sheffield rugby players as well as Sky Sports pundits.

With every side allowed to field two current players, Crusaders stars Jordan James and Geraint Davies, both of whom were star players in Wales’ recent European Cup Final win, played for the Dragons.

Wales also “fielded” their longest serving current player Ian Watson, who has won 26 caps for his country, as well as former internationals Barry Eaton, Paul Highton, Chris Morley and Anthony Sullivan.

Andy Gregory also guest starred for Wales, and ironically he scored against his former England counterparts in the opening match as Wales won 3-0. Harris and Highton were Wales other scorers.

Harris also scored in Wales’ second match, a 2-1 win over the Buccaneers where Eaton also crossed, but they came a cropper in their two final games, both against the All Golds, losing 4-0 in the last group game and 1-0 in the Final.

England failed to win a game and lost their final game 4-0 to the Buccaneers in the 3rd v 4th Wooden Spoon Final.

The tournament was held for the Wooden Spoon charity, was filmed by Sky Sports and will be shown on January 2nd and 3rd.
