Featherstone re-name Post Office Road

Featherstone Rovers‘ Post Office Road ground will now be known as the Bigfellas Stadium after a two year sponsorship deal was agreed with the local night spot.

The Championship club had previously adopted the name “Chris Moyles Stadium” for their home, after the Radio 1 DJ, but they have now secured a financial sponsorship deal for the new season.

Tony Lumb, the managing director of Bigfellas Night Club, said, “I just wanted to do something for the local community that supports us. I’ve always been interested in rugby and Featherstone have a good team this year with a great chance of success and Bigfellas want to be associated with this success.”

Rovers chief executive Andy Prout said: “I’m absolutely delighted that Tony Lumb and Bigfellas are now sponsoring the stadium in a deal which will be invaluable to the club.

“We’re deeply grateful to Chris Moyles for allowing us to use his name for the last three years, which undoubtedly lead in 2007 and 2008 to Featherstone Rovers being the most talked about Rugby League club nationally. I am under no illusions and have no doubt that this extra publicity is what has lead to the interest in stadium naming which is something we couldn’t even contemplate in 2007. I think it shows how the club has progressed in the last couple of years and what the future is.

“We are delighted and hopefully we can build on the relationship with Tony and Bigfellas and become a leading force in the Championship this year and beyond.’

Chairman Mark Campbell added: “It’s nice to be associated with a prominent businessman running Pontefract’s Premier night spot. It’s also good to bring another new sponsor to the club which will help people to see how the club is going forward. This sponsorship will help us massively over the next couple of years.”
