Championship Preview: Featherstone Rovers

Daryl Powell will be hoping to continue the season-on-season progression that’s been taking place at Post Office Road since promotion to the Championship in 2007. 2010 marks the Rovers’ best opportunity to date to mount a title challenge and tick the box for a license application.

In Kyle Briggs, Featherstone have one of the sport’s hottest prospects and a player expected to make the step up following the retirement of Iestyn Harris. Andy Kain and Liam Finn will give the side further attacking spark with the likes of Tommy Saxton and Jon Steel providing that finishing touch.

Larsen Marabe and Jesse Joe Nandye have been flown in from Papua New Guinea and are expected to make a big impact once they settle. Iain Morrison is another player who’ll be looking to make his mark after developing a reputation as one of the divisions top props during his time at Widnes.

Featherstone’s success in 2010 hinges on how quickly the squad, which undoubtedly has the talent, gels on the field. At worst, Rovers fans can expect a play-off challenge but, if things click straight away, there’s no telling what this team could achieve.
