New signing Gareth Thomas was taken off after half an hour, but Crusaders still managed a gutsy 14-6 victory over Catalans.

The rugby union convert went off after being on the receiving end of a few big hits in the televised game in front of 6,124 fans at the Racecourse Ground.

He had been largely anonymous as Crusaders built up an 8-0 first half lead through Jason Chan‘s try and two Michael Witt goals.

Kevin Walters’ struggling Dragons side got themselves back in the running with Olivier Elima‘s second half try, converted by Greg Mounis, but Crusaders remained strong, and they wrapped up the two points when Witt converted Peter Lupton‘s try in the final ten minutes.
