Sign petition to help Rob Burrow in battle against motor neurone disease

Drew Darbyshire

Leeds legend Rob Burrow wants the rugby league community to sign a petition to help sufferers of motor neurone disease.

The 37-year-old announced in December 2019 that he was diagnosed with MND – just two years after retiring from playing professional rugby league.

Burrow is trying to gain 100,000 signatures to raise awareness to the government about a new treatment called NurOwn.

No effective treatment exists for 5,000 sufferers of MND in the UK. NurOwn is in the final months of Phase three of a US FDA regulated clinical trial.

Phase two data indicated NurOwn was safe and demonstrated signs of efficacy at low doses.

The government responds to all petitions that get more than 10,000 signatures but at 100,000 signatures, this petition will be considered for debate in parliament.
