Moltzen crocked for season

West Tigers have confirmed that halfback Tim Moltzen will miss the rest of the season after scans revealed a serious knee injury.

Moltzen underwent MRI scans on Monday which confirmed a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee which he suffered against North Queensland on Saturday night.

The 21-year-old will undergo a knee reconstruction to fix the problem next week but his rehabilitation is expected to be lengthy.

The news is a huge blow for the Tigers for whom Moltzen’s partnership with Benji Marshall has been a feature so far this year.

Coach Tim Sheens now has a dilemma on who to pick in place of Moltzen at halfback for the Tigers’ round 6 clash with Canterbury on Friday.

Robert Lui, who started the season at half-back, is not expected back until round eight.

Meanwhile, MRI scans have revealed a grade one calf strain for prop Todd Payten.

He is likely to miss two matches.
