My Set of Six: with Saints prop Kyle Amor featuring Jamie Peacock & his Cumbrian wish

Drew Darbyshire

Ireland and St Helens prop Kyle Amor is our latest guest on My Set of Six.

We’re asking you, the fans, plus players, coaches and other rugby league personalities to give us their answers to our set of six questions.

Favourite away ground?

It is a difficult one to choose – our games against Wigan are an obvious one but I love playing at Leeds, although I’m yet to play at the redeveloped Headingley. Warrington away is always an amazing atmosphere too.

Favourite player?

As a front-rower myself, I can’t look past Jamie Peacock. I was fortunate enough to spend some time with him whilst I was at Leeds. As a young player, he taught me a lot about hard work and attitude – things that I still value today. What he achieved in the sport won’t be replicated again – he’s an immortal of our game.

Favourite memory?

It’s difficult to single out one but winning my second Grand Final (2019) on my 300th career appearance was special. I honestly never thought I’d get 10 games – never mind 300!

Worst memory?

Losing at Wembley in the 2019 Challenge Cup final.

Best game you’ve seen?

When England beat New Zealand 20-14 at Anfield in 2018. Me and my boy were going mental in our living room watching it. The whole England team played great and our Saints boys were at the very heart of it. It was fantastic to watch.

Your wish for the future of rugby league?

I want to echo what Morgan Knowles said really about rugby league in Cumbria. I have been passionate about it my whole career and I’d love to see a Cumbrian side in Super League. However, I think the next few years is make or break for the professional game up there.

In my opinion, a West Cumbrian (Whitehaven and Workington) merged side is the only way forward. It has to happen. I really believe and hope in the aftermath of the current climate that it could be a possible option.
