Sydney 28-12 South Sydney: Roosters claim bragging rights against Rabbitohs
Sydney Roosters claimed the bragging rights with a 28-12 victory over South Sydney Rabbitohs at Bankwest Stadium.
The Roosters opened the scoring inside five minutes as Daniel Tupou cottoned onto a nice chip from Luke Keary. Kyle Flanagan was on target with his conversion.
The Morris brothers were in good form in the first half – and a Tupou break saw Josh Morris grubber the ball through for the supporting Flanagan to score. He converted his own try to give his side a 12-0 lead after half an hour.
Wayne Bennett’s Rabbitohs got themselves back into the game late on in the first half. A flat ball from Latrell Mitchell saw Cameron Murray steam over. Adam Reynolds converted but they trailed 12-6 at the interval.
The Roosters started the second half brilliantly as James Tedesco burst through a gap to score a great individual try in the corner.
Momentum was with Trent Robinson’s side following Tedesco’s effort and they extended their lead when captain Boyd Cordner ran a fine line to go over. Flanagan’s conversion put them 22-6 in front after 47 minutes.
The Rabbitohs fought back once again as Tom Burgess scored from a barnstorming carry, with Reynolds adding the extras.
Jake Friend sealed the win for the Roosters in the 76th minute as he chased down his own grubber to score. Flanagan’s conversion saw the Roosters clinch a 28-12 victory over their rivals.
