Small crowds to return to NRL next week

Drew Darbyshire

The NRL has been granted permission for small crowds to attend games in round five of the competition next week by the New South Wales government.

Small crowds are set to be approved from next weekend as stadium guidelines are brought into line with current restrictions on pubs and restaurants in Australia.

The NSW government’s rules allow spectators to attend NRL games in catered areas at a ratio of one person every four square metres.

Up to 50 people will be permitted in one corporate box if social distancing rules are met, with details on how many fans can actually attend matches yet to be confirmed.

The NRL is the first professional sport in Australia to welcome fans back following the coronavirus pandemic.
