Featherstone claim league leaders shield
RFL Chief Executive Nigel Wood has offered his congratulations to Featherstone Rovers for their achievement in securing the Co-operative Championship League Leaders’ Shield.
Featherstone’s 34-26 victory over Batley Bulldogs at Mount Pleasant today confirmed pole position for Daryl Powell and his team going into the play-offs and underlined their ranking as the Championship’s form team of 2010.
“This is a terrific achievement by everyone at Featherstone Rovers and on behalf of the RFL I would like to extend my congratulations on their success,” said Wood.
“The Co-operative Championship has been as competitive in 2010 as we have grown accustomed to and Featherstone have had to work very hard to win the League Leaders’ Shield.
“What is particularly pleasing is the way in which Daryl Powell has built his team around a group of very talented young English players who have represented Featherstone with pride all year long.
“I’m sure no-one at Featherstone – or any of the clubs immediately below them – will need reminding that the Co-operative Championship title has still to be won and I’m sure there is a lot of drama yet to unfold between now and the Grand Final on Sunday September 26.”
