Wigan top Super League table
Wigan will top the Super League ladder for the first time after picking up the points they needed in their penultimate game of the season against Hull KR.
After last week’s disappointment, a 18-16 defeat against Huddersfield that denied them the chance to secure the league leader’s shield in front of their own fans, the Warriors came away from Craven Park 38-18 winners.
It was fitting that Man of Steel candidate Pat Richards was key, the Ireland international scoring two tries, including his 100th for the club, and seven goals as Wigan ran in six tries.
They outclassed Rovers in the first half, racking up a 14-0 advantage, but were pegged back after the break as Justin Morgan’s men ran in three unconverted tries without response to hit the front.
However, Wigan regained their steel to settle the nerves of the travelling faithful, with tries from Sam and Joel Tomkins, Richards and Josh Charnley helping them to victory.
